Welcome to

Summer Camp

Donehoo School
6/19/08

Our goal for the demo was to teach the children the importance of knowing how to communicate with canines.  Some important tips were demonstrated on Domino like how to approach a dog and how to properly pet someone else’s dog.  Everyone enjoyed watching Shuga bark out math problems, Russell run the obstacle course, and of course petting baby Uno.  Kingdom K-9 wants to thank all of the staff and children at Donehoo Elementary School for allowing us to demo canines.  We look forward to our next visit.

We will be at Donehoo Elementary School again this summer on July 17, 2008 at 10am.

Summer Camp - July 17, 2008

Along with watching Russell run the obstacle course and Sugga barking out answers to math problems, the kids got to see huge Domino and were fascinated by his size.  Then Sugga gave a demonstration of how a protection dog works.Joe Simmons spoke briefly before demonstrations given by himself, Sid Washington III & Tiffany Gorecka with our four stars - Domino, Shuga, Russell, & Uno.

He spoke of the nature of dogs, and God's purpose for dogs.  All dogs were originally bred as hunters.  This is an instinct inbreed in them.  Larger dogs were usually used to hunt large prey such as deer, wild pigs, and such.  Smaller dogs were used to hunt rats, snakes, rabbits, and such.  Knowing this makes it possible to help protect yourself from a dog.

Rule #1 - Don't approach a strange dog. Never run from a dog unless you are certain you can reach protection before the dog can reach you.  If you do this he instinctively sees you as prey and will chase you and probably bite you. If a strange dog approaches you stand still or slowly back away and face the dog.  Do not lock eyes with it as this is confrontational to a dog.  If it circles you, turn with him so you can still see him from the corner of your eye.  Generally, after circling you, he will go on about his business. He has seen that you aren't confronting him yet also see you aren't afraid of him.
